One Toe In

We all and Danny took a hike down to the Columbia River. It was a rare hot day.

But the river was not hot, it was ICY. It hurt your piggie as soon as you put it in. Also, don't drink the water or you will get a disease which is hard to believe because it is so clear and beautiful but Danny is a travel writer so he knows all these things.

I pooped out on the hike back on account of the heat which I am a big baby about. My cheeks get so instantly pink!

Thankfully for me, Dad let me ride on his shoulders. Probably the biggest perk of being my age is the occasional chance to ride tall and carefree up on those broad babies. Beats walking!

They Caved

They breezed through again...

Jay lives here, Andrea does not. We stopped believing she ever will.

But it is still nice to feel the breeze.

My dad and Uncle Derek LOVE each other. I've heard them say it.
p.s. My dad is breezin through L.A. right now doing some book panels at some book festivals so if you are a nerd you should go!

please mrs postman

Every day when the mail comes and there is no mail for me I say to my parents, "I am so sad! No one ever sends me anything!" And I pout. And then a great day will come along and the mail lady will bring a postcard with my name on it and I get so happy, you should see me, and I put it right on my bulletin board. And then once in a while a really super day will come and I'll get a big box from my uncle Mike with records inside and a cool Amoeba t-shirt in it that I never want to take off.

This is one of my drawings. I send these to people who write to me and those people seem to really like them.

the nature of nature

This was the last hike we took to the falls, with Lisa, Emily and Greta-bug. This was back when it was still cold and rainy. Today it is warm and sunny so we are positively visualizing that winter is finally behind us and we are IN spring.

I love the seasons, the change from one crazy type of weather to the next...but I am READY for some sunny outdoor play. Let's GO!!!!

Our Gang

Me, NR and Stu-Baby. NR is Natalie-Rose and Stu-Baby is Stuart and me, well you know me, I'm Gus. This is my neighborhood posse. All the day long I wait for one of these guys to call me up or knock on my door asking me to play chalk or scooters or races or basketball. My parents never want to play as long as these guys do. We are the same age, on the same page. We go inside my room and tell each other all the funny words we know, some of them we have to say quietly so adults don't hear. And then we laugh and laugh and laugh.

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU GUYS!

Great Easter Sunday over here....hope you all are finding eggs and celebrating bunny style! I did two egg hunts, the big one at the park with every kid in the neighborhood and then the one in my backyard with just my mom and dad. I am the product of my two parents, equally loving the public and the private celebrations...

...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE MIKE!!! I sure love you.

My Love Will Never Go Extinct

And just so everyone sees that I too had a super fun vacation time...

with dinosaurs and mantises and bobbies and mamops...

and movies and ice-cream and McDonalds! Thank you Mamop and Grandpa for taking good care of me and showing me a fun time every day. I went to museums and exhibits with Mamop and I went to the construction sites and pancake houses with Bobby. You guys are the best! Just tell me when I can come back again....

Miss You's Corner

We're all back in Portland now, vacation is over, but the memories of our fun times are still clear in the mind. There are a lot of people to miss:

Rolling a zero (five 3's) on the first roll. Rare and magical, just like these tried and true friendships. My parents miss all you guys! And I do too!

Happiness Is...

...the working vacation. Dad worked, mom vacationed.

He had two readings in Los Angeles where he read parts of his book out loud to a room full of friends and strangers who just listened.

Clare Crespo and the magical and well-behaved Ruby. I guess she did better at listening and not-talking than I did at dad's reading.

Dave and Jason, mom's oldest friends back from her UCLA daze.

Everyone clapped after because they were happy and proud for my dad who they used to know only as the guy at the bar. Now he's the guy with a book about the guy at the bar!

And after all the readings, he signed his books for the friends and strangers. It was a good time to gather and reflect on how far everyone has come and how happy and healthy they all are now. Best wishes!
