Happy Birthday Big D

And the birthdays keep on coming...

Yesterday was Derek's birthday. I really like Derek. I call him Gok. I like him because he makes my dad look little when he stands next to him. I like him because he's not bored with my jokes and stories yet and he'll listen to me and let me sit next to him and let me wear his hat all night and also he will let me kiss him. And Derek doesn't let ANYBODY kiss him. Happy Birthday buddy.

The Big Book

So, you know how I love, love, love Elmo, right? Well, check this out:

Are you dying??? That's ME! Me as a little monster like the rest of them! Me hugging Elmo! Hanging out with Big Bird! Partying with Ernie and Bert! Its my own book all about my adventures with those guys. My Aunt Marisa gave it to me for my birthday and it just about flattened me when I saw it. I actually run to bed now for storytime. Can you imagine getting a book starring you and your biggest hero? Who would that be I wonder?

Escape From Bainbridge Island

My parents ditched me to spend a whole day and night in the big city. The AuntiJen was in town again, visiting Pete and Uncle Derek and Andrea and they all hung out and had lunch and also dinner and then also drinks where my dad believes he was picked up on by a gay man and my mom says baby don't flatter yourself that guy was just drunk. But they feel free and breezy out there on account of leaving me behind. Whatever!

Grandpoop and I had a perfectly nice time on our own, reading our books in our chairs by our lamps. So there!

The Feed Back

Well, I gotta tell you how much I love getting those comments about how you all read this and how you feel some love for me and feel like we are all still close together and everything. It is very exciting to hear from people that I didn't know about before. And my parents are feeling good remembering all the people from the Echo Park life that they thought were gone into the memory parts of their heads. Our little world feels a lot bigger and a lot better.

Please keep sending me comments from mysterious places. I know its just a strange baby's blog that only talks about silly baby things but if you are reading this you are my pal and there's no gettin out it. Please keep telling me who you are and growing the circle of modern friendship.

This is pool mode. My Lil Swimmers diaper and a PB & J. The sandwich gives me energy to kick real hard and spastic. The diaper keeps all my mistakes near me instead of all over other swimmers. We like to believe this anyway. Welcome to our OOL! (notice there is no P in it! Ha! Ha! Ha! That is such good joke.)

The DD of GV Anniversary

My Good Friends,

It is the birthday of my blog. It's been a year of daily discoveries. A whole year, how can it be? This was a way for us to pretend like we don't really live so far from all of you, for you guys to be in my life though you are not in my town. I think it has really been working. There is closeness between us, don't you feel it? I know my circle of friends has grown through doing this and I have friends of friends and even friends of friends of friends out there that I don't even know. I wish I could hear from you like you hear so often from me. Please everyone send me a comment and tell me who you are and where you are. Come on, please! Are you kidding me, we got a family here.

Here's a small recap of the year, from my baldness to my first steps to today. I will tell you, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart, this has been the best year of my life...

Your Friend Forever,
Gustavo Valentine deWitt

HAPPY GUSTAVO VALENTINE'S DAY

Today is the day where Mama and Daddy give each other cards and candy and flowers to say that they love each other. Then they go out to a dinner and a movie and talk about how much they love each other. They are private people and probably don't want me telling you about their personal life, but my parents are in love very much. And don't say eww gross, because this is an actual fact of life! I wouldn't be here otherwise. Think about that.

Love is the reason for itself. Think about that also.

pinches to grow inches

Happy Birthday to all the Aquariums in my life! So many birthdays to wish happy to...Auntie Cari and Clare Crespo and Nana had theirs. Grandpoop's and the AuntiJen's is coming up. And today is Mamam's birthday. If you ask me how old she is I will tell you: TWO! I got all dressed up in my finest duds including a new tie and we gave her presents like Mason bee's for her to raise out on the deck and we took her out to a very delicious and filling Indian meal. Grandpoop never goes out to dinner so it was a rare treat to have us all out there on the town in the nighttime. Nick came over on the ferry from the big city and we only wish uncle Mike could have been there too but he would have had to take a plane over from the even bigger city and what do you think he is, made of money?

and hey look, its a sandwich board sign for sandwich boards! You gotta get out of the house to see something like that!

jam sesh

Well, I've taken up the drums. And, I don't want to brag, though that's all I pretty much do here, but I'm really good. I got all the sweet moves and good drum faces and Mama showed me some stick spinning tricks a la Tommy Lee. We jam together, me and Daddy or me and Mama or all of us. I listen to the piano and I just come in when I feel it. And then I totally feel it. We all do and the feeling is good.

Sheeee's Baaaaack!

And boy am I happy. Happy in the middle of my heart. I feel it. She is done with Mexico and loves us and the house here and her whole life. She is glad to be back. That's what a vacation can do for you. She says I am taller and thinner and more handsome than when she left. And when I kissed her and said Hi Honey, I think something wonderful happened in the middle of her heart too.

working her way back to me, babe

Mamam is FINALLY coming home tomorrow after being gone FOREVER in Mexico country. I am practicing all my funniest faces and my best smiles to really wow her and remind her that I am a not a kid to be forgotten about. I have a bunch of new things to show her and TELL her since I can talk a whole lot better than when she left. I can say three word sentences like "no way Nicky" and "no way Mama" and "get up Grandpa". And the newest thing, which is not necessarily the best thing if you ask anyone else around here, is that I say Mama (or Daddy) 35 times in row, even after Mama (or Daddy) has said Yes Gus, what do you want 30 times back to me and look me right in the eyes and say What is it Gus! I'm right here, Gus! I hear you Gus! Stop doing that Gus! I want their attention. Even long after I have it, I still want it.

The Toddler Formally Known As Gus

So all the dudes and mama watched the superbowl sunday. Grandpoop was focused on the game but I was more into drawing my airplanes and whales and my parents were more into making margaritas. But come half time, we were all glued to the set. The Purple One came on and he was awesome. Mama says he looks and sounds exactly the same as when she and best friend Lisa saw him on the Purple Rain tour many MANY years ago. He did a medley of all his number one great songs and except for a mysterious Foo Fighter moment we were all really into it. So I did a medley of all my best moves:

Its Superbowl Sunday!!!

Happy Superbowl to all the dudes that care! We are having all the guys we know over the house for the game and pizza rolls and hot dogs and beers. This is a fun day for Grandpoop and he really truly deserves a fun day. He's been working and stressing and still he is always nice to me...

For example, did you realize that every morning now Grandpoop is the one who gets up when I start meeping, changes my diaper, brings me into his bed where we fall back asleep like two weiners in a bun, then takes me out into the kitchen and fixes me toast with apricots and juice? While my parents stay cuddly in bed? This man deserves a month of Superbowls and I vow to be as quiet and well behaved as possible for the entire show (except when Prince performs at halfime, cuz Mama says thats when we can get freaky).
